New York Times best-selling author, Susan Vreeland, will be the keynote speaker at the Glass Artisans Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen dinner on Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel Scranton from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Ms. Vreeland’s best-selling book, Clara & Mr. Tiffany, tells the story of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s chief glass designer, Clara Walcott Driscoll, and the women artists who labored behind the scenes to create the masterpieces and iconic luxury of Tiffany lamps, jewelry, mosaics and windows. Historically, the designs had been exclusively accredited to Louis C. Tiffany. Vreeland will shed some light and share stories on how these talented Women had a much greater role in establishing the Tiffany legacy.
“In keeping with the spirit of Women’s History Month, our audience will gain a deeper appreciation for the extraordinary life and contributions of Clara Driscoll and the Tiffany Girls”, says Jan Winemiller, Owner of Tingley Glass and platinum sponsor of the event. Susan Vreeland will also address innovations in American decorative arts and reveal the challenges and contributions of women in the workplace during America’s Gilded Age.
The event will be held in The Grand Atrium of the Radisson Hotel which is surrounded by ornamented mosaic tile floor, rare Siena marble walls, 36 unique Grueby Faience tile murals and a breathtaking barrel-vaulted Tiffany stained-glass ceiling. A cocktail reception will be held from 5:30-6:30, dinner & keynote from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and immediately following the dinner, there will be a book signing with Susan Vreeland as well as a Glass Art and Tiffany Lamp exhibit by members of Glass Artisans.
