Children’s Classes and Workshops
The Young Artists Batik Workshop – $75, includes all supplies,with Judy Youshock (for ages 7-12). Saturday, January 26 from 1-4 PM. Basic introduction to the Batik process on oriental paper. Each child will work through the process of using melted (hot) wax as a resist and watercolor or inks to create a layered abstract design or painting. Hairdryers are used to dry each layer of the artwork. An iron is used to remove the wax. Students will be assisted through the process especially while using hot wax and iron. It’s a magical experience and very enjoyable. At least one finished artwork will be produced.
The Young Artist Explores $100, includes all supplies, with Judy Youshock (for ages 5-12), Saturdays, April 6, 13, 20, 27 12-1 PM Children will experiment with drawing, painting, collage & printmaking. We will have fun learning the fundamentals while exploring new mediums.
Teen and Adult Classes and Workshops
Direct Figure Drawing with Ted Michalowski Saturdays, January 26, February 2, 16, 23 (*No class 2/9) 1-3 PM $125, includes model fee Student rate: $100 This energetic course will focus on direct drawing, from the partially costumed life model. Participants will draw from a professional model through a range of exciting approaches, to draw more freely, confidently and courageously. Student Supplies: -Charcoal or graphite pencils, Woodless graphite are recommended -Sharpener -Conté Crayon: Sanguine (soft rust color) -18″x24″ Newsprint pad with ample supply of paper -Drawing board with clamps
Wet & Wild: Watermedia Painting with Renee Emanuel. Beginner & Experienced Watercolor & Acrylic painters welcome! Series I Tuesday, February 5, 12, 19, 26 6-8PM $100, Series II Tuesday, March 19, 26, April 2, 9 6-8PM $100. Although we’ll be concentrating on watercolor painting in our first series, those painters who prefer working in acrylics are welcome. In both series, we’ll concentrate on expressing your own unique view of the world, using value, color, and composition. We’ll start with still life and drawing for those who are just beginning and continue to work from your photos as we learn what to look for in composing strong and expressive paintings. Series II is a continuation of the first series and will focus on the continued development of skills through demonstrations, individual help and the support of the other students. Some experience in drawing is recommended. Join us, have fun and embrace your creativity as we begin this New Year! The materials for beginners in the first class will be included. A list of materials will be available for you to purchase after this first class.
Jewelry Making Goes Green – Recycled Earrings Workshop. Saturday, February 16 from 12:30-2:30 PM $35. Are you ready to make some fabulous earrings with recycled items? Before you throw away those outdated magazines or toss out those old buttons, let Liz teach you the art of recycling. As a designer for Simply Beads, Bead Trends, and Create & Decorate magazines, Liz’s innovative designs have inspired others to create beautiful, unique jewelry from discarded objects. Now let her inspire you to go green, and see how much fun it can be. NOTE: Although not required, if you have jewelry pliers, feel free to bring them to class. This workshop is appropriate for teenagers (14 +) and adults.
Beyond the Stick Figure, Part I, with Nina Davidowitz. Thursdays, February 7, 14, 21, 28 6-8 PM $100. This fun class is geared towards beginners. Everyone can learn to draw! Move beyond the stick figure by learning to see things the way an artist does in order to draw realistically. Weekly projects and exercises will open your eyes to a whole new world. No experience necessary!
Beyond the Stick Figure, Part II. Thursdays, March 7, 14, 21, 28 6-8 PM $100. Whether you are a beginner or someone looking to improve their drawing skills, this informative class will take you to the next level. In our continued study of realistic drawing, we will explore new mediums, techniques and subject matter, such as shading, perspective, landscape and still life projects.
Introduction to Colored Pencil Drawing, with Nina Davidowitz, Thursdays, April 4, 11, 18, 25 6-8 PM $100. Color adds so much to artwork, and colored pencils are so fun and easy to use! In this four-week session we will learn the principles of color mixing. The works of artists such as Hopper and Matisse will inspire our weekly projects that will include landscapes and still lifes.
Special Artist Classes
Drawing and Painting. Our two artist/instructors, Renee Emanuel and Bill Teitsworth cover the basics and beyond…drawing in graphite pencil, markers, and water-soluble pencils…painting in watercolor and acrylic. All About Theatre for Very Special Artists Wednesdays, 5:30-7 PM $95, per series. all supplies included. Series I -February 6, 13, 20, 27, March 6, 13.
