Keystone College to Host Retrospective Exhibition of Artwork by Esteemed Professor William Tersteeg and Former Students
The Linder Gallery at Keystone College will host a retrospective exhibition of ceramic art by Professor Emeritus William Tersteeg and twenty of his former students from March 24 through April 29 on the Keystone campus in La Plume.
The exhibit will feature a reception for the artists on Saturday, March 24 from 4-6 pm in the Gallery, and the public is invited.
Professor Tersteeg is a noted ceramist who helped establish the Fine Arts Division at Keystone College and served on its faculty for forty years. He retired from the College last year.
His artwork has been exhibited throughout the nation, and has received numerous awards and accolades. In 1979, Professor Tersteeg was a recipient of the prestigious F. Lammot Belin Arts Scholarship, awarded through The Waverly Community House in Waverly, Pennsylvania.
Influence as an artist and teacher had a profound impact
During his tenure at Keystone College, Professor Tersteeg’s influence as an artist and teacher had a profound impact on countless students, twenty of whom were invited to participate in this exhibition.
The participating alumni studied under Professor Tersteeg in classes going back to the 1970s, and for some as recently as 2011. Many have gone on to very successful careers as artists and educators themselves.
“I think it speaks so highly of Bill that he wanted to include former students in this exhibit, and it was entirely his idea to do so,” said Drake Gómez, director of the Linder Gallery. “But it’s wasn’t unexpected, either. Bill was a very student-focused teacher and artist, so it didn’t surprise me when every alumnus we contacted immediately agreed to be a part of this.”
William Tersteeg received an MFA from Southern Illinois University before joining the Keystone College faculty in 1970. In 1998, the College awarded him the Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Chair Award for Distinguished Faculty Service. He resides in Dalton, Pennsylvania.
