‘SALLY WIENER GROTTA & NIKO J. KALLIANIOTIS’ at AFA Gallery

‘VISUAL TRUTHS: SALLY WIENER GROTTA & NIKO J. KALLIANIOTIS’
This photography exhibition highlights the photographic work from two local artists, Sally Wiener Grotta and Niko Kallianiotis.
Wiener Grotta says, ‘Photography – painting with light and shadow, seeking the textures and patterns that define the world around me – is at once personal and yet universal. I see stories everywhere, in small, intimate details.’ Her abiding goal is to move slowly through the moment, so that she may discover, capture and share these visual narratives.
‘There is no such thing as inaccuracy in a photograph. All photographs are accurate. None of them are the truth.’ This particular quote by Richard Avedon was a departure to a new photographic journey; a personal visual journey aimed to discover the truth, if truth really exists in the visual world. Kallianiotis, coming from an editorial background, has always felt that everything depicted in a photojournalistic/documentary image was the truth. This might be the case on the surface, but behind a particular photograph there is also the personal, social, and artistic worldview of the photographer that determines even in a flash the visual outcome.
Please join us for an opening reception on Friday, January 6th, from 6-9 PM. Exhibition runs through January 28th, 2012.
