The partners in the Arts SEEN Gallery, located on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre, have been approached by some folks in Pittston to open a similar gallery on Main Street in Pittston. As is the case in Wilkes-Barre, the location is an empty storefront and, as long as the location will be available, the occupancy costs (rent & utilities) are very attractive. The location at 71 South Main Street and there is room for about 35 artists, each receiving a floor-to-ceiling section of the wall or a comparable space in the center of the room. Based on this, our preliminary estimates are that we can include artists at a rate of $20 per month. An additional requirement is that each artists MUST agree to staff the gallery for one half day per month, Monday through Saturday, 9:30 – 5:30 (2 4-hour shifts per day). We will look for a senior aide or other volunteer to staff for the additional time. Artists must clearly price their work so as to permit transactions by whomever is on duty. We are able to accept credit cards if the gallery attendant has a cell phone, which is strongly encouraged. THE ARTISTS KEEP 100% OF THEIR SALES.
The space will be available to us on or about November 1, and we would like to be open prior to Thanksgiving to take advantage of the holiday shopping season. We believe this is an attractive location as it is highly visible with good pedestrian activity in an area which is being remodeled with new sidewalks, lighting and street-scape improvements, (which will be completed prior to our occupancy).
